Harappan site could provide missing links

Chandigarh, Mar 2 (UNI) The recent discovery of an early Harappan city site at village Girawad near Madina in Haryana could help provide the missing links of Indian history, Haryana Minister of State for Archives, Archaeology and Museums Meena Mandal said today.

''The discovery of the site prove that ours is one of the oldest civilisation--well rooted and highly developed. The discovery of the site would help in providing evidences to complete the missing links of the Indian history,'' she said.

Ms Meena Mandal said the discovery of a site on February 19 testified to cultural practices that dated well before 3000 BC.

The site is spread over an area of 25 acres and about 1.5 meters in the height from the present surrounding ground level.

''The material culture available from the site indicates that the economy of Girawad was based on agriculture only. Defence wall, early Harappan pottery and furnaces found during surface explorations were the sufficient evidences to prove its antiquity to that of early Harappan times,'' she said.

Its huge area was also testimony to its being a city site, she added.
