Governor, CM condole death of Naga jawans

Kohima, Mar 2 (UNI) Governor K Sankaranarayanan has condoled the death of four Naga Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawans in Chhattisgarh in a mine explosion yesterday.

In a condolence message, the Governor conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families of jawans B Limawati Walling, T Ngheo Lotha, Chumuki Sangtam and Mayangchiba Walling, whose supreme sacrifice, he said, will be remembered with respect and gratitude.

He also wished for the speedy recovery of two other injured IRB jawans.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, State Home Minister Thenucho and Director General of Police J Chankija also expressed grief over the incident and his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

Meanwhile, Goa Governor S C Jamir enquired his Chhattisgarh counterpart E S L Narasimhan yesterday about the incident. Mr Narasimhan informed that four persons, along with others from their unit were on a road-clearing patrol when the landmine exploded and suspected naxalites opened fire on them.

Mr Jamir also said, ''This should strengthen our resolve to do away with violence in all form in this modern world.

First Mizo woman assumed top-office in Salvation Army

Aizawl, March 2 (UNI) Salvation Army officer Major Lalngaihawmi has umed office as the first Mizo female Chief Secretary in the Salvation Army, which is a church and social organisation. 235 OTA cadets to be commissioned into Indian Army

Chennai, Mar 8 (UNI) About 235 cadets from Officers Training Academy (OTA) at St Thomas Mount here would be commissioned into Indian Army, after their successful training. According to the army spokesperson, the passing out parade will be held on March 17. After the arduous and rigorous training, a total of 162 gentlemen and 73 lady cadets would be commissioned into the Army as Lieutenant. Air chief to visit Southern Air Command

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 9 (UNI) IAF Chief, Air Chief Marshal SP Tyagi will arrive here on a two-day official visit on Sunday. Air Chief Marshal Tyagi will address the Station Commanders of Southern Air Command (SAC) on March 11 on strategic aspects, a release said here.
