Former Congress MLA convicted

Sagar(MP), Mar 2 (UNI) A local court has sentenced one year imprisonment to former Congress MLA Santosh Sahu and about two dozen people of both sides involved in a clash among the supporters of liquor contractors here 11 years ago.

Additional Sessions Judge Satyendra Kumar Singh yesterday acquitted Santosh Sahu's son Satish, but convicted his brother Kamlesh Sahu. Two accused died during the trial period. Jairam Sahu and six others of the rival group were also sentenced to one year imprisonment and fine.

According to prosecution, supporters of Santosh Sahu and Jairam Sahu clashed and opened fire in the air at the market here on February 19, 1996. Police registered case against both groups.

Constable commits suicide in Mumbai

Mumbai, Mar 11 (UNI) A police constable attached to the Shivaji Nagar police station today comitted suicide here. Youth murdered, corporator detained

Kolhapur, Mar 11 (UNI) A youth was mudered and another grievously injured when they were attacked with swords and stones, allegedly by supporters of a corporator, at Sangram Chowk in the powerloom town of Ichalkaranji early today. The deceased has been identified as Gajanan Raghunath Malvekar, 23 while Rakesh Shetye has been hospitalised with serious injuries, police said.
