EC bans posters, flag on vehicles expect for candidates,party agent

Lucknow, Mar 2 (UNI) The Election Commission has banned use of posters and party flags on vehicles except for the candidates and their polling agents during the seven-phase Uttar Pradesh assembly poll.

State chief electoral officer (CEO) Anuj Kumar Bishnoi said here today only those vehicles, being accounted for in the expenditure list of candidate, will be allowed to use party flags and posters.

''If other vehicles are found using party flags and posters, it will attract violation of model code of conduct,'' he warned.

Mr Bishnoi said no person with any arms or ammunition would be allowed within 100 meters of any polling booth, while wall graffiti has been strictly banned by any candidate during the campaigning.

Talking about the seriousness of the EC in distribution of Election Photo Identity Cards (EPICs), Mr Bishnoi said district wise review would be started next week after Holi.

Meanwhile, the Commission has stayed the transfer of Etah SDM P K Srivastava to Kannauj. Mr Srivastava will continue on the post of SDM Etah, as he could not join the new posting before Februrary 21, the date of announcement of the assembly poll.

Ranjit Deshmukh raises banner of revolt in Nagpur ZP polls

5 Italians hurt in mishap

Kancheepuram, Mar 7 (UNI) Five foreigners were injured when the car in which they were travelling overturned at Vedal near here yesterday. Police said here today the Italians were proceeding to SIPCOT Industrial Estate from their hotel in the district when the car driver applied sudden brakes and the vehicle overturned injuring the occupants. The victims were taken to a private hospital and later taken to a hospital in Chennai where they were undergoing treatment. UNI.....
