DLF Consortium bags Rs 400 cr convention centre contract: Rane

Panaji, Mar 2 (UNI) Delhi-based DLF Consortium has bagged the Rs 400 crore contract for building the prestigious 4000 capacity Goa Convention Centre after finalising the bids.

This was disclosed to mediapersons by Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane here today.

Mr Rane said the Consortium, within two weeks of signing a memorandum of understanding with the government, will pay Rs 162 crore upfront to the government.

The convention centre, to be built on a 25 acre site in Dona Paula on ''build, operate and transfer basis'' under the public-private partnership model, will become a beehive of activities including the coming International Film Festivals of India (IFFI), he said.

The construction includes a big hotel complex to accommodate guests, which will be ready in 18 months. The company has to shell down 5 per cent of the revenue it generates to the government after 5 years and hand it over after 35 years, Chief Secretary J P Singh said.

Tanzanian, Nigerian arrested in connection with Pune Rave party

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) Police have arrested three suspected drug peddlers, including a Tanzanian and a Nigerian national, in connection with the recent Pune rave party and seized narcotics from them. Nbabwa Ally Zuma, the Tanzanian national, was arrested from Mathura road with 10 grams of cocaine. Immanual Nnanta Akiko, the Nigerian national, was arrested from Vasant Vihar on the intervening night of March seven with eight grams of cocaine. All the three accused have been booked under different.....

Affair between teacher, student does not account for seduction: SC

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) In an important ruling, the Supreme Court has held that if there is a love affair between a teacher and a student, it does not mean that the girl has been seduced or allured or induced for sexual intercourse. The ruling was handed down by a bench comprising Justices S B Sinha and Markandey Katju while giving a clean chit to a Madhya Pradesh government school teacher Omkar Prasad Verma, who was sentenced to two years.....
