ACC Feb cement despatches down 7 pc

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) Country's second largest cement manufacturer ACC Ltd today said the cement despatches fell seven per cent to 1.42 million tonnes in the month of February, as against 1.53 million tonnes during the same period last year.

''This was due to planned stoppages on account of certain technical modifications carried out at company's three plants,'' a statement said.

Similarly, cement production in the month totalled 1.45 million tonnes, 5.8 per cent down from 1.54 million a year ago.

The cumulative production during the period January-February 2007 was 3.09 million tonnes, down from 3.19 MT a year ago while despatches was 3.07 million tonnes, as against 3.18 MT during the corresponding period last year.

Joint vigil of IMBL only after Centre's nod: MK

Chennai, Mar 13 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said Sri Lanka's reported proposal for a joint monitoring of the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) with India to prevent attacks on Indian fishermen was possible, only if the Centre gave its nod.
