3 dacoits shot dead

Bhopal, Mar 2 (UNI) Notorious dacoit Pratap Gadaria, who carried a reward of Rs one lakh, was shot dead in an encounter with the police early this morning in the forest under Subhashpura police station area of Shivpuri district, while two other dacoits were killed in another encounter in Datia district, police said.

On a tip-off, police launched a search and shot dead Pratap Gadaria, while his two accomplices escaped in darkness. One rifle, 60 cartridges, Rs 4000 in cash and other materials were seizesd from the possession of Pratap, a prominent member of the Dayaram-Rambabu Gadaria dacoit gang, Superintendent of Police Sajid Farid Shapu said.

Meanwhile, dacoits Nazim and Kallu Lodhi, who carried a reward of Rs 15,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively, were shot dead in an encounter in the forest under Goraghat police station area of Datia district, police said.

One pistol, two rifles and cartridges were recovered from their possession. Two accomplices managed to escape, Datia Superintendent of Police Mahesh Mudgal said.

Former Congress MLA convicted

Sagar(MP), Mar 2 (UNI) A local court has sentenced one year imprisonment to former Congress MLA Santosh Sahu and about two dozen people of both sides involved in a clash among the supporters of liquor contractors here 11 years ago. Additional Sessions Judge Satyendra Kumar Singh yesterday acquitted Santosh Sahu's son Satish, but convicted his brother Kamlesh Sahu. Two accused died during the trial period. Jairam Sahu and six others of the rival group were also sentenced to one year imprisonment.....

18 kg cannabis seized in HP

Mandi, Mar 10 (UNI) In one of the biggest seizure of cannabis in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh this year, police sources today said they have seized 18 kg of the contraband and arrested four people, including two Italians. Acting on a tip off that a large quantity of cannabis was being smuggled into the town, a police team set up a check post at Katindhi on the Mandi-Kataula road and recovered the contraband from two bags in a Santro.....

Stop seizing farmlands for SEZ, IFTU tells CM

Mumbai, Mar 2 (UNI) The Indian Federation of Trade Union (IFTU) today submitted a Memorandum to Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, seeking immediate rollback of anti-farmer and land acquisition policies introduced by the State Government. There is growing choas and insecurity among farmers and land owners in villages and rural areas, after the State administration began seizing lands for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) without paying adequate compensation and rehabilitation, Ravindra Joshi, President IFTU-Mumbai told UNI.
