Why Quattrocchi's arrest suppressed: Advani

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani today wanted the government to explain why the information about the detention of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi was suppressed for about a fortnight till the Assembly elections were over in Uttarakhand and Punjab.

''Why was there a deafening silence on the issue till February 23. The Prime Minister should explain this,'' Mr Advani said while speaking on the Motion of Thanks on the Presiden't Address.

In the President's Address, the government mentions about the Right to Information Act, but supresses information on Quattrocchi's detention in Argentina, he said.

''People have the right to get heard and their greivance heard in this august House,'' he added.

He said the statement of Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachauri did not mention about the reason for the delay in announcing the detention of the Bofors kickbacks accused.

Telgi's wife released on health grounds

Pune, Mar 10 (UNI) Shahida Adbul Karim Telgi, wife of the prime accused in the inter-state multi-crore fake stamps paper scam Abdul Karim Telgi was today released from Yerwada jail on health grounds. MCOCA Judge Chitra Bhedi yesterday granted bail to Shahida on health grounds and a surety of Rs one lakh. The court also ordered her to remain in Bangalore and seek prior permission from the court before leaving the city. The Court asked defence Lawyer Milind Pawar to intimate.....

Railways identify 20 locations for budget hotels

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The Railways have decided to set up a hundred budget hotels all over its network through Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), out of which tenders for 20 locations have been finalised, the Lok Sabha was informed today. In a written reply, Minister of State for Railways R Velu said these hotels would be set up by IRCTC on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model on the unused railway land in the vicinity of stations......

ACB arrests PSI while accepting bribe

Mumbai, Mar 10 (UNI) The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths here have arrested a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from an accused at Mira Road in neighbouring Thane district. The ACB sources said suspended PSI Vilas Shivaji Jadhav (29), who was arrested last evening, had arrested five persons in a rioting case, all of whom were released on bail later. Thereafter, Jadhav had approached one of the accused Nadeem Mumtaz Sheikh and demanded Rs.....
