Tata Indicom introduces Qualcomm single-chip cell phone

Bangalore, Mar 1 (UNI) Tata Teleservices, the country's fastest growing telecom service provider, today launched the ultra slim Motofone F3c on the CDMA platform based on Qualcomm single-chip (QSC) technology.

"This is the first device in India based on QSC family which measure just nine millimeter and has extensive core feature set while appealing to more sophisticated design tastes," Tata Teleservices CEO Darryl Green said.

Speaking at the launch, he said combining Motorola's award-winning design sensibility with intuitive and easty-to-use functionally, Motofone F3c was priced at Rs 1699 with starter pack of Go Xtra. This model would 'disrupt' today's communications landscape by cutting across price tiers and high end product segments.

"The debut of Motofone F3c reiterates Tata Indicom's commitment to offer the latest in global innovation and technology on CDMA platform," he added.

Qualcomm India CEO Kanwalinder Singh said QSC family of solutions enabled smaller, sleeker, more power-efficient devices for mass-markets. The technology enabled cost-competitive devices with in-demand features such as polyphonic ringtones, wall papers, games, MP3 player and digital camera.

QSC6010, which powered the Motofone F3c had features like voice prompts in six languages like English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. The model was specially designed to suit the needs of Indian consumers. It had sturdy design, Indian tones, high audio, office quality speakerfone and ringtone downloads, he said.

Mr Singh said San Diego, California-based Qualcomm was a leader in developing and delivering innovative digital wireless communication products and services based on CDMA and other a advanced technologies.

"We developed this advanced chip set just six months ago and already delivered over one million chips to ten Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Tata Indicom is the first service provider in India to use this technology. Our Hyderabad R and D Centre played a big role in developing this chip set. We have 5000 engineers world wide which include the 500 working in our India Centre in Hyderabad," he said.

This model was available in the open market only on Tata Indicom's 3G ready network spread across 20 circles.

Tata Teleservices offers integrated telecom solutions using the latest CDMA 3G1X technology for its wireless network. It operates from more than 3100 towns across 20 circles and had a customer base 15 million which include 3.8 of fixed wireless service.
