Speaker to convene meeting of Karnataka, TN MPs on Cauvery

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee will meet MPs from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to discuss ways to allow a ''structured debate'' on the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT).

The Speaker conveyed this information to Karnataka MPs, who met him to urge him to allow a discussion on the final award of the CWDT to highlight the ''injustices'' caused to the state under rule 193 of Parliamentary Procedures Act.

The Speaker informed the MPs about his talks with Tamil Nadu MPs also and said a meeting between both sides would help evolve a process of allowing a discussion on the contentious issue which touches emotional chords of people in both states.

The MPs delegation comprised former Union Minister Ananth Kumar, Mr P C Gaddi Gowdar, and other MPs from BJP, Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) parties.

Court asks Gawli to appear on March 12

Mumbai, Mar 8 (UNI) A local court has summoned gangster-turned-MLA Arun Gawli to appear before it on March 12 after the police urged the court to cancel the bail granted to him in a misappropriation case. Additional Sessions Judge P D Vishwasrao today directed Gawli to appear before the court on March 12. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) had arrested Gawli a few months ago for allegedly misappropriating funds of employees' union affiliated to his party, the Akhil Bharatiya Sena. Gawli.....

IGNOU to set up 8,000 tele-knowledge centres in rural areas

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) As part of the eleventh plan proposal, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is planning to set up 8,000 tele-knowledge centres in rural areas.
