Scribes protest alleged attempt to prosecute media in Asom

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Representatives of the media fraternity, under the umbrella of Joint Forum of Journalists Associations today, staged a demonstration here against alleged attempt to prosecute journalists and proprietors of media houses by the governments of Asom and Andhra Pradesh.

The state governments were openly thwarting freedom of the Press and prosecuting those who did not ''serve their interest'', a statement said today.

The demonstrators were supported by PMs from BJP, Telugu Desam Party, AIADMK and Asom Gana Parishad, including Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.

JFJA Convenor Narendra Bhandari also presented a memorandum to President A P J Abdul Kalam seeking that the Centre should take action against the two governments, it added.

Fast Track Court frames charges in Papiya murder case

Patna Mar 8 (UNI) A Fast Track Court today framed charges against five criminals, accused of killing noted professor Papiya Ghosh and her maid. The court of Omprakash framed the charges under IPC 396 and 412. Some criminals had entered the residence of Ms Ghosh on December 2, 2000 with the motive of committing dacoity. India, Cuba to cooperate in renewable energy

New Delhi, Mar 01 (UNI) India and Cuba will cooperate in the field of renewable energy and have agreed to renew the Protocol of Cooperation in Renewable Energy for another two years. This was decided at the Sixth Session of the Inter-Governmental Commission for Economic, Technical and Scientific Collaboration between the two countries in Havana, an official spokesman said here today. Four constables suspended after criminals escape

Koderma, Mar 8 (UNI) Three prisoners escaped from the district jail here on the Ranchi-Patna road (NH 31), in Jharkhand's Koderma district last night, police said today. Four constables were suspended in this regard, senior official sources this evening said.
