School IT awards announced

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 1 (UNI) The Kerala State Education Minister's IT awards, given away to schools and also to students for outstanding performance and initiatives in IT, were announced today.

Announcing the awards here, Education Minister M A Baby said the GHSS, Pookottumpadam in Malapuram had bagged the award for the best computer lab among Government schools and the Mar Basil HSS in Ernakulam district got the best computer lab award in the Aided category.

While the award for the best computer lab for government schools carried a cash prize of Rs two lakh and a trophy, the award in the aided category comprised a trophy.

The government schools that came first in the districts in the computer lab category would get Rs 10,000 and those in the aided category would get only a trophy.

Irinjalakuda educational district had been chosen for the best educational district in undertaking IT initiatives. The best IT project award comprising a cash prize of Rs 10,000 went to V R Vishnu of the GHSS, Kaniyambetta in Wayanad district, while the best projects in the district-level would get a cash prize of Rs 1,000.

All arrangements made for SSC, Inter exams: Collector

Chittoor, Mar 1 (UNI) All arrangements had been made for the conduct of the SSC and Intermediate examinations in Chittoor district, according to district Collector S S Rawath here today. As many as 61,828 students, including 48,383 regular, 10,426 private and 3,019 vocational course candidates will be writing this year's SSC examinations, from March 21 to April 4 while 40,357 students would appear for the junior Inter exam and 31,657 students for the senior Inter comprising regular and private candidates, beginning.....

Honorarium of Vidya volunteers in AP to be raised

Hyderabad, Mar 01 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajsekhhara Reddy has decided to enhance the honorarium of Vidya volunteers of primary and upper primary schools in all the districts to Rs 1,500 per month from Rs 1,000. The Chief Minister had taken the decision following representation from Vidya volunteers, appeal from Congress and Youth Congress workers, an official release said here today. Altogether 50,763 Vidya volunteers were working in the state and the additonal expenditure on account of this.....

Scaffolding collapsed, ten injured

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, Mar 1 (UNI) Ten people were injured when a scaffolding collapsed at the famous Adi Kumbeswarar temple at Kumbakonam in this district today. Police said devotees had thronged the temple in view of the ongoing 'Masi Maham' festival when the wooden scaffolding erected between the temple chariot and 'mandapam' collapsed. The injured were admitted to Government hospital at Kumbakonam. Meanwhile, the 'Masi Maham' festival will culminate on Saturday with devotees taking a holy dip in the famous.....
