SC orders CBI probe into UP CM and family's assets

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary investigation into the alleged disproportionate assets of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members.

Issuing the directions on a Public Interest Litigation filed by one Biswanath Chaturvedi, a Bench comprising Justices AR Lakshamanan and Altamas Kabir, observed ''It would subserve the public interest, morality and the chief minister's interest as well to have such a probe.'' UNI

Guwahati, Feb 28 (UNI) Suspected militants abducted the Samraipur tea estate manager at gunpoint in Golaghat district last night. The tea executive R K Singh was kidnapped near his official bungalow while he was returning from Golaghat town. Four killed in two separate road accidents

Agartala, Feb 28 (UNI) Four people were killed in two separate road mishaps at Nutan Bazar and Silachari in the state's South district. A truck carrying four people from Bairagi Doken met with an accident at Bhulanathpara, about 14 km from Nutan Bazar police station. The truck fell into a gorge killing three people on spot. Ranchi, Feb 28 (UNI) Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Arjun Munda today described the Union Budget as 'anti-people' saying it would fail to control inflation and price hike.
