Rs 440 cr Central aid for court modernisation: Minister

Coimbatore, Mar 1 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Law and Justice K Venkatapathy today said the Centre had allocated Rs 440 crore for modernisation of sub-ordinate courts in the country.

Talking to newspersons here, he said under the modernisation programme all courts would be computerised to keep track of the progress of cases.

He said computerisation would be done in a phased manner and efforts would be taken to dispose the cases fast.

On 'Plea Bargaining System', which was recently introduced, he said the system had not reached the masses.

Under the new system, the accused would confess his offence and pray before the Judge, who would consider granting mercy and reduce the quantum of punishment.

Stating that the government would make all efforts to popularise the system, he called upon the advocates to promote it.

Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway to be completed by Sep: Baalu

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The expected date of completion of the much-awaited Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway has been revised from June to September this year, union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu told Parliament today. Government considering setting up environment courts

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Admitting that there were delays in the disposal of environment-related cases, the Government today said it was actively considering setting up environment courts as recommended by the Law Commission. Since none of the courts in the country have exclusive jurisdiction over environmental issues, there are procedural delays in disposal of cases, Minister of Environment and Forests Namo Narain Meena told the Lok Sabha today. National Institution of Food Technology coming up at Kundli

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Subodh Kant Sahai today informed the Lok Sabha that a National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship&Management is being set up at Kundli in Haryana.
