Polling stations set up for MLC polls

Tirupati, Mar 1 (UNI) As many as 101 polling stations in Prakasam, 81 in Nellore and 116 in Chittoor district have been set up for graduate voters while for the teachers constituency 21 polling stations in Prakasam, 48 in Nellore and 70 in Chittoor would be set up for casting votes in the MLC polls, commencing on March 17.

According to Chittoor District Collector S S Rawat here, 31 candidates would be contesting for the graduates seats and 12 candidates for teachers constituency in the East Rayalaseema constituency.

Three candidates were in fray and seven for two MLC seats in Chittoor district. 1,58,206 voters will elect their candidates in the graduates constituency and 14,294 voters in teachers constituency. 1,130 voters will exercise their franchise in local bodies, he said.

The counting will take place on March 21 and March 23.

Cracks in Himalayan glaciers due to high temperature

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) The cracks in the snout of Gangotri Glacier is because of the recession of the majority of Himalayan glaciers due to high temperatures during summer months and sub-normal snowfall, a Geological Survey of India (GSI) report has said. Hyderabad, Mar 2 (UNI) No nominations have been filed by the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the election of 31 members to the legislative Council today.
