MP Cong accuses BJP of violating model code

Bhopal, Mar 1 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee has accused the state's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime of violating the model code of conduct in the run-up to March 8 bypolls and written to the Chief Electoral Officer in this regard.

Congress Legal Cell President J P Dhanopia alleged that canvassing was being mixed with religion and agents were being fixed in the garb of independent candidates. Police officers ''enjoying long tenures'' in Udaypura assembly constituency were ''harassing'' Congress workers.

''Two of the officers are relatives of the BJP nominee and should therefore be transferred forthwith. In Gwalior parliamentary constituency, religion-linked hoardings are hurting a certain community,'' he added.

8,000 voters' names missing from voting list: Mohanbhai

Rajkot, Mar 1 (UNI) Former Deputy Mayor of Rajkot Municipal Corporation Mohanbhai Sojitra has alleged that as many as 8,000 to 10,000 voters' names are missing from the voters list and has written a letter to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi seeking immediate rectification of the same. In the letter to Gandhi, Sojitra alleged apart from the missing names from the electoral list of Rajkot district, published recently by District Electoral Authority, there were other discrepancies like misspelt.....

Pakistanis had held 1040 Indian fishermen in last 3 years: Chudasma

Gandhinagar, Mar 1 (UNI) Pakistani Coast Guards have, in the last three years, apprehended as many as 1040 Indian fishermen, while they were fishing in the deep sea, state Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma today revealed in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. In a reply to a written question from BJP MLA Pradeepsinh Jadeja during Question Hour, Mr Chudasma said with the state government seeking Centre's help, as many as 867 fishermen were released by the Pakistani authorities.
