LIC Branch Manager sentenced for two years RI

Visakhapatnam, Mar 1 (UNI) A Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) Branch Manger was sentenced to undergo two years rigorous imprisonment for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in connection with payment of a death claim here.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Superintendent of Police Sai Manohar in a release said, the prosecution charged W Giridhar for demanding the money as illegal gratification from the complainant G Ramakrishna on October 31, 2001 for settling the death claim of his son.

A fine of Rs 2000 was also imposed of Mr Giridhar.

House Committee Chairman demands filing cases against officials

Bangalore, Mar 1 (UNI) The House Committee, formed by the Karnataka government to look into illegal encroachment of government land in and around the City, today demanded filing of criminal cases against 174 officials of the Revenue Department for being 'hand in glove' with the land grabbers. HC allows fishermen Sangam's appeal

Chennai, Mar 1 (UNI) The Madras High Court today allowed an appeal against the ruling of a single judge, dismissing a petition challenging an order to collect penalty from 77 fishermen and if the same was not paid, they shall not be issued permit for fishing allegedly beyond the International Boundary Line (IBL). A division bench comprising Justices P Sathasivam and N Paul Vasanthakumar, which allowed the appeal filed by Rameswaram Port Visai Padagu (mechanised boat) Meenavar Sangam, however, made it.....

Judge arrested for embezzling funds; remanded to judicial custody

Mysore, Mar 1 (UNI) Suspended Principal sessions judge Sayed Ameen Ali was arrested and remanded to judicial custody till March 14 in a case relating to misappropriation of court funds. Judge Ali was produced before first additional principal civil Judge Sangareshi at his residence last night and remanded to judicial custody for a day. On expiry of custody today, Judge Sangareshi held video conferencing with Judge Ali, lodged at the central prison in the city, and extended the remand......
