Lashker militant arrested alongwith arms in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 1 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a militant of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) alongwith arms and ammunition in south Kashmir today.

A police spokesman said police conducted a search operation at Heff in Pulwama district of South Kashmir this morning. During the operation, LeT militant Showkat Ahmad Tantray was arrested.

An and a hand grenade were recovered from his possession, he said.

Chennai, Mar 8 (UNI) Madras High Court today adjourned to next week the hearing on a petition seeking to register a case against controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen for her alleged defamatory and blasphemous statements on Islam. When the petition filed by Tamil Nadu Muslim Makkal Katchi President S M Pasha came for hearing before Justice K N Basha, Additional Public Prosecutor Kumaresan sought time for getting instructions from the Commissioner of Police, Chennai. Four members suspended for disrupting Governor's Speech

Monica's jail term reduced to three years

Hyderabad, Mar 8 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh High Court today reduced the jail term of former actress Monica Bedi in a fake passport case to three years from five years. Mr Justice B Seshasayana Reddy, while delivering the judgement, said he had took into account Monica's detention period of nine months in Portugal. However, the Court rejected her claim that she was being subjected to double jeopardy. The Judge also considered her status and age while reducing the jail term......

Three BSP supporters crushed to death by a speeding bus

Lucknow, Mar 1 (UNI) At least three Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) supporters were killed on the spot and 10 others sustained injuries when a speeding bus crushed them near Ambedkar Maidan, the venue of the BSP rally today. Police said the deceased were going towards the rally ground when the incident occured. Two of the deceased belonged to Aligarh while another was a local youth. Four college students among six arrested

Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) Six persons, including four college students, were arrested by sleuths of the Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) on charges of demanding extortion money of Rs 1.1 crore from a businessman in central Mumbai. The accused had been making the demand since February 26, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dhananjay Kamlakar told reporters here today. The businessman had lodged a complaint with AEC in this regard. Thereafter, he had agreed to pay the amount in instalments and had fixed date,.....
