Large areas of wildlife parks under encroachment

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) A large area of various national parks, including the Kaziranga National Park of Asom, is under encroachment, the Government told the Rajya Sabha today.

The Kaziranga Park has sufferred the maximum loss with 7790 hectares of its land illegally occupied, Minister of State for Environment Namo Narain Meena said in a written reply to a question.

Three more national parks in Asom--Manas, Rajiv Gandhi and Nameri -- have also large area under unauthrised occupation. They have lost 1700, 800 and 2100 hectares to illegal users.

A large part of the Namdapha National Park in Arunachal(3005 hectares) has also been encroached too.

Besides the Dudhwa National Park in Uttar Pradesh, Bannerghatta National Park in Karnataka, Dibru Saikhowa National Park in Asom have also more than 200 hectares of their area under encroachment.

The Minister, however, said that steps were being taken to reclaim the encroached areas of the park.

These include consolidation and demarcation of park boundaries, bringing the encroached areas under afforestation after eviction, fixing of signages cautioning of penal clauses for encroachment, excavation of boundary trenches and construction of masonry rubble wall.

He said the Centre provides technical and financial assistance to national parks for various activities which include prevention of encroachments.

National Institution of Food Technology coming up at Kundli

The Institute will function as a knowledge centre in food processing field with emphasis on inter-disciplinary research, developing new products and processes and incubating innovative ideas. It will also provide a forum for intense interaction with industry, Government, consumers and experts on the emerging.....

Hindi will be the universally-accepted tongue: Anant

Bhopal, Mar 2 (UNI) Expressing concern over the condition of the Hindi language in India, eminent Mauritius-resident Hindi short story-writer Abhimanyu Anant is however not disappointed as he believes that Hindi will be the universally-accepted tongue some day. ''There is nothing wrong in learning English but that should not be at the cost of Hindi. Knowledge of English may be a compulsion for employment but it is not right to accord importance to English just to influence people and present oneself.....

Rail Budget focus on backward areas: Rathwa

Indore, Mar 2 (UNI) Minister of State for Railways Naranbhai J Rathwa today claimed that the Railway Budget for 2007-08 specially focussed on tribal and backward areas and they would continue to be emphasised on in coming years. ''The Centre is endeavouring to link tribal areas with the development mainstream by connecting them with the railway network. The Budget also paid attention to the security aspect,'' he told reporters here. Responding to Bharatiya Janata Party allegations that the Budget actually neglected.....
