Kedia case to be heared on March 5

Barasat, Mar 1 (UNI) A bail petition hearing by IT company director Sanjay Kedia before an Additional District and Sessions Court here was adjourned till March 5, as hearing remained inconclusive today.

Kedia who is on judicial remand since his arrest under the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance Act, was being produced before Additional District and Sessiosn Judge Sambhunath Chatterjee at Barasat court.

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Magasaysay Award winner children rights activist Shanta Sinha has been appointed as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights which is tasked with examining all matters relating to children in a holistic manner. The Commission would examine all factors inhibiting the enjoyment of rights by children affected by terrorism, communal violence, riots, natural disaster, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, trafficking, maltreatment, torture and exploitation, pornography and prostitution and recommend appropriate remedial measures. Restrictions lifted on suspended Pakistani judge

Islamabad, Mar 17: Pakistani authorities have lifted restrictions on the country's suspended top judge, one of his lawyers said today, a day after protesters and police clashed on the streets of the capital and in other cities.The suspension of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary on March 9 has outraged lawyers and united disparate opposition parties against President Pervez Musharraf, who is expected to seek another term late this year.Lawyers were meeting in the eastern city of Lahore to discuss the case today.....

Accuse of murder aquitted

Barasat, Mar 1 (UNI) A 40-year-old accused of murdering his 90-year-old-mother-in-law two years ago in North 24 Parganas was acquitted by a Fast Track court here today. Additional District and Sessions Judge Baidyanath Bhaduri set free Alok Mondal from the charges of strangulating his mother-in-law Sukhada Mondal in August 2005 to grab her property. The prosecution had failed to prove the charges leveled against him, said the defense lawyer Bhaskar Chakrabarty. UNI.....

Ranchi, Mar 1 (UNI) Armed miscreants injured a supporter of Jharkhand Health Minister Bhanu Pratap Shahi yesterday when he along with others was going to participate in a celebration following the minister's victory from Bhawnathpur Assembly. Police today said the miscreants opened fire on the Navjawan Sangharsh Morcha (NSM) supporters' vehicle after they failed to stop them near Sonehara village in Garwah district. The vehicle was also damaged. The NSM activists celebrate the day as 'Vijay Divas' after the minister.....
