Infiltration bid foiled at bg in Poonch

Jammu, Mar 1 (UNI) Army troops have foiled an infiltration bid by militants from the line of control (LoC) at Bhimber Gali in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesman said here today.

''Troops noticed some suspicious movement on the other side last night and opened a speculative fire, which was retaliated by the suspected terrorists,'' he said.

Later, during the search operation this morning, troops recovered an AK rifle, AK magazine, a claymore mine, an R S Antenna and other material of daily use, the spokesman said.

Sepoy inkong was injured in the incident, he added.

HC extends stay on dismissal of Dr Venugopal's service

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today extended the stay on the termination of the services of AIIMS Director Dr P Venugopal from his post till May 8, saying that the matter was pending before a Division Bench. Justice B D Ahmed adjourned the matter and extended the stay on the termination of the services of Dr Venugopal till May 8, the next date of hearing. Militants kill ex-colleague, his father in Kishtwar

Jammu, Mar 1 (UNI) Suspected militants have killed their former colleague and his father by slitting their throat at Bhandari Mohalla in Kishtwar area of Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, police sources today said. Deceased Mohammad Amin alias Shakeel Ansari (32), a surrendered Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HUJI) militant, and his father Ahmadu Baksh (52) were found in the pool of blood with slit throat this morning, sources said. SC holds top WB officials guilty of contempt of court

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) The Supreme Court today held four top officials of the West Bengal government guilty of contempt of Calcutta High Court for allotting liquor shops in violation of the High Court's orders and severely censored them for their conduct. The officers are Raghabendra Singh, Principal Secretary, Excise Department, Tallen Kumar, Excise Commissioner, Manoj Kumar Pant, District Magistrate, District 24 Parganas, and Parvez Siddique, Additional District Magistrate.
