Holi celebrations under section 144 CrPC

Shillong, Mar 1(UNI) In view of the Holi celebration, Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills District Magistrate B Dhar today promulgated section 144 CrPC prohibiting throwing, spraying and playing of coloured chemicals /substances/powders in public places including thoroughfares.

The order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force till March 5 next, Mr Dhar said.

Patna, Mar 1 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today in the state Assembly said that his government was in favour of inclusion of one crore people in the list of below poverty line (BPL) and urged the Centre for changing the relevent criteria to clear the bottleneck in this regard. Replying to the special debate on Governor's address to the joint session of state legislature, Mr Kumar assured the house that the state government had taken several steps to rectify.....

Nitish says opposition misguiding people

Patna, Mar 1 (UNI) Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said the state government had succeeded in combating crime, whereas, the opposition was misleading the people on the issue. He said the opposition RJD had released misleading figures on crime soon after one year completion of the NDA government. As per the RJD, total number of murder committed in 2006 was 23802, while the official figure was only 3630, he said adding that even national crime record bureau had put the figure.....

No disaster management plan for NE so far

Aizawl, Mar 1 (UNI) Despite approval for an effective Disaster Management for the northeastern states, the North Eastern Council (NEC) has not been able to take any susbstantial step in this regard, official sources said today. Experts expressed concern over the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the NEC in preparing a regional disaster management plan even after the adoption of the Shillong Declaration in 2004, sources pointed out. The Shillong Declaration on disaster management was adopted in 2004 at the 49th NEC.....

Ekka made new IG (Prison)

Ranchi, Mar 1 (UNI) The Jharkhand government today appointed Additional Secretary (Welfare) Karn alias Ekka as new IG (Prison). Earlier in the day, Mr Sarvendu Tathagat, Additional Secretary (Home), had been given additional charge of IG (Prison). Special secretary to HRD Sailesh Kumar Singh was transferred to rural development in the same capacity. UNI.....
