Heavy rains likely in UP, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh

Pune, Mar 1 (UNI) Heavy rains or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Rain or snow are likely to occur at a few places in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places in Jharkhand, Bihar and at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal and Sikkim, Orissa, Haryana, Punjab, north Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh and at isolated places in south Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh. Mainly dry weather will prvail over the Vidarbha region.

Heavy rain have occurred at most places in Himachal Pradesh.

Rain or snow have occurred at most places in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and at many places in Jammu and Kashmir.

Very light rain or thundershowers have occurred at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya, Jharkhand, east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Rain or thundershowers have occurred at many places in Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and west Rajasthan and a few places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, east Rajasthan and at isolated places in west Uttar Pradesh and west Madhya Pradesh. Mainly dry weather prevailed over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Orissa and Vidarbha.

Cold wave conditions prevailed at isolated places in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Night temperatures were appreciably below normal in Jammu. They were appreciably to markedly above normal in some parts of West Bengal and Sikkim, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat state, Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Chattisgarh and were above normal in some parts of Telangana and north interior Karnataka and in remaining parts of West Bengal and Sikkim, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttaranchal, Rajasthan, Gujarat state and Madhya Pradesh.

They were normal over the rest of the country.

Day tempratures were appreciably above normal in Jharkhand, east Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh and were above normal in Manipur, east Uttar Pradesh, west Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka. They were appreciably to markedly below normal in Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and north Rajasthan and were below normal in south Rajasthan and Gujarat state. They were normal over the rest of the country.

SC reserves judgment on interim stay on reservation issue

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) The Supreme Court today reserved its judgement on the issue of interim stay against the government notification providing 27.5 per cent reservation to OBCs in admission to central educational institutions from the academic session 2007-08. Senior counsel Fali S Nariman and P P Rao contended before a Bench comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and Lokeshwar Singh Panta that the present reservation policy of the government was based on 1931 population figures which has no reference to caste-based.....

MIG 21 aircraft crashed near Kurseong

Siliguri, Mar 01 (UNI) A MiG-21 aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed near Kurseong in Darjeeling district today. Official sources quoting preliminary reports here said immediately after the crash was noticed an IAF team from nearby Hasimara Airforce Base had rushed to the spot and launched a search for the pilot -Squadron Leader S.Pandey- who still remained untraced. The aircarft which took off from Hasimara base on a practice sortie at around 13-00 hours,crashlanded immediately afterwards somewhere between Norbong.....

SC refers SIMI petition to larger bench

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) The Supreme Court today referred to a larger bench a petition filed by the Students of Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) challenging the ban imposed on it by the Central Government for indulging in unlawful and anti-national activities. A bench comprising Justices S B Sinha and Markandey Katju, however, made it clear that the state was free to proceed against the activists of the banned organisation if they are found indulging in unlawful and anti-national activities.....
