Heavy rains lash UP

Lucknow, Mar 1 (UNI) Heavy rainfall lashed the Uttar Pradesh capital early today, bringing a chill in air before Holi.

The rainfall, which was accompanied by strong thundershowers, led to a chilly start to the day for Lucknowites. The sun was visible only in the latter half of the day.

The weatherman attributed the sudden change in weather to fresh western disturbances.

In the last 24 hrs, rainfall occurred in Varanasi, Bareilly, Faizabad, Allahabad, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Siddharthnagar and Lucknow.

Varanasi was the wettest, recording three cm rainfall.

Night temperature fell in Agra, Allahabad, Lucknow, Jhansi, Faizabad, Gorakhpur and Kanpur divisions.

The state capital, at 13.9 degrees Celsius, was the coldest in UP. Allahabad recorded 14.4 degrees.

Meanwhile, two children were buried alive when a wall of their house collapsed due to heay rainfall in Madiaon area here.

In another incident, two persons were killed in different rain triggered incidents in Bareilly.

The weatherman has forecast rainfall accompanied by thundershowers and squall in the next 24 hrs.

Co-op banks to introduce separate vigilance, audit wings
