Estate Employees Association volunteers arrested

Puducherry, Mar 1 (UNI) About 52 volunteers of the Industrial Estate Employees Association, affiliated to the CITU, were arrested today when they tried to picket the labour office here to press their demands.

Their demands included immediate transfer of the Labour Mediatory Officer, alleging that he was an 'anti-labourer' taking unilateral decisions which would benifit the industry owners.

Meanwhile, Members of the Puducherry State Electricity Department Employees Union observed a fast infront of the head office demanding appointments on compassionate grounds, for evolving proper transfer policies in the department and adoption of reservation in promotions.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 1 (UNI) As many as 5,05,201 students will be appearing in this year's SSLC examinations, commencing on March 14. Of this 2,31,569 candidates are girls. Aircel tests 3G technology, readies for launch

TPM urges AP govt to amend Endowments Act

Hyderabad, Mar 1 (UNI) The Temples Protection Movement (TPM) today urged the Andhra Pradesh government to amend the Endowments Act as directed by the Supreme Court to save the temples from decay and help in revival of the temple system in the state. Purcussion artist trampled to death

Kollam, Mar 1(UNI) A rogue elephant today trampled a percussion artist to death and injured two others seriously during the temple festival here.
