Daughter-in-law slaps dowry charges against Guj SP, family

Ahmedabad, Mar 1 (UNI) The daughter-in-law of a top police official has lodged a FIR against him and his family charging them with demanding dowry and torturing her.

Hetal Desai alleged that her in-laws including husband Nitin and his father I M Desai, Superintendent of Police of Sabarkantha, had threatened her with dire circumstances if she did not comply with their demands. She was forced to leave with her daughter and return to her parents' home, Hetal said.

When contacted, Mr Desai, however, denied the charges and said Hetal was acting at her father's behest.

''She has been incited by her father Amtabhai Desai to trade charges against us. He is trying to blackmail me. My son is also innocent,'' he claimed.

Nadiad, Mar 1 (UNI) A local Fast Track Court has convicted a 25-year-old man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl in May 2006. Nadiad Fast Track Judge D M Patel found Dasrath Solanki guilty of raping the minor girl under sections 376 and 506 (II) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
