Court passes protection order under Domestic Violence Act

Dharamahala, Mar 1 (UNI) A local court here in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh today passed ''protection order'' in favour of the victim who had registered the first case in the state under the Domestic Violence (Prevention) Act, 2005.

The court, in its order, directed the respondent Vijay Kumar, brother-in-law of Ms Anita, not to commit these acts again against the victim, while restraining him from entering her premises under the influence of liquor.

Anita, a resident of Manjgram village of Shahpur sub-division of the district, had alleged in her petition before the court on February 26 that her brother-in-law Vijay Kumar was harassing her in her in-laws house in the absence of her husband, who was away.

Jagori, a voluntary organisation working for the women empowerment in the district, had motivated Ms Anita to file a case against him after her brother-in-law physically assaulted her father-in-law who came out in her support.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on Vijay for his previous acts of abuse and intimidation against the victim, while passing the protection order.

The first case registered under the Domestic Violence (Prevention) Act, 2005, has been decided within a record period of fours days after it was filed on February 26 this year.
