Ranchi, Mar 1 (UNI) Armed miscreants injured a supporter of Jharkhand Health Minister Bhanu Pratap Shahi yesterday when he along with others was going to participate in a celebration following the minister's victory from Bhawnathpur Assembly.

Police today said the miscreants opened fire on the Navjawan Sangharsh Morcha (NSM) supporters' vehicle after they failed to stop them near Sonehara village in Garwah district. The vehicle was also damaged.

The NSM activists celebrate the day as 'Vijay Divas' after the minister returned to the Assembly in 2005.

Karnataka MPs seek discussion on Cauvery in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Members of Parliament from Karnataka today sought time with Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to highlight the injustice meted out to Karnataka in the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal both in terms of irrigation and drinking water needs. LIC Branch Manager sentenced for two years RI

Visakhapatnam, Mar 1 (UNI) A Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) Branch Manger was sentenced to undergo two years rigorous imprisonment for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in connection with payment of a death claim here. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Superintendent of Police Sai Manohar in a release said, the prosecution charged W Giridhar for demanding the money as illegal gratification from the complainant G Ramakrishna on October 31, 2001 for settling the death claim of his son......

House Committee Chairman demands filing cases against officials

Bangalore, Mar 1 (UNI) The House Committee, formed by the Karnataka government to look into illegal encroachment of government land in and around the City, today demanded filing of criminal cases against 174 officials of the Revenue Department for being 'hand in glove' with the land grabbers. Talking to newsmen here, Committee Chairman A T Ramaswamy said that it was understood that 469 cases were booked against these officials involved in land grabbing cases. This included Deputy Tahsildars, Revenue Inspectors.....
