Conmen posing as police cheat textile merchant

Surat, Mar 1 (UNI) Two men, posing as police officials, decamped with booty worth Rs 36,000 from a textile merchant from Mumbai, who was on a business trip here.

Mahidharpura police informed here today that Rameshkumar Jagatjit Rajpurohit, a textile merchant working with Tirupati silk mills in Bhuleshwar Road in Mumbai, arrived here yesterday for some business purpose.

Last night, two unidentified persons approched Rajpurohit near Vijay lodge in Dilli Gate and introduced themselves as policemen.

The culprits then told Rajpurohit that they want to check his suitcase, which Mr Rajapurohit handed over to them immediately.

The conmen then 'checked' the suitcase, his purse and pocket and then let him go.

Later, to his shock, Rajpurohit realised that he has been robbed of Rs 36,000. He immediately informed the matter to Mahidharpura police and a case has been registered as per IPC sections 170, 420 and 114, sources said.

Youth stabbed near Grant Road Railway station in Mumbai

ACB nabs AMC engineer while accepting Rs 5,000 bribe

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Mar 1 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption-Bureau (ACB) sleuths today caught red-handed a junior engineer of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a contractor for sanctioning of his bills. Acting on a complaint filed by the contractor, Sayyed Ahmed Bayauddin, the ACB team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Pravin Kulkarni, laid a trap and apprehended Bhagaji Paraji Sonwane while accepting the bribe money, the ACB sources said.
