Congress announces list of its ZP, PS candidates

Sangli, Maharashtra, Mar 1 (UNI) The Congress today announced the list of its candidates for Zilla Parishad (ZP) and Panchayat Samiti (PS) elections, to be held on March 11, in the district.

The names of candidates were declared in all the areas barring the Tasgaon tehsil, home constituency of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, where his rival Congress leader Sanjaykaka Patil joined the NCP recently.

Sangli district Congress committee president Mohanrao Kadam released the list of 53 ZP candidates and 106 PS candidates here.

Political observers feel with Mr Patil, the strong contender to NCP leader, joining the latter's party, the Congress has no potential candiate to contest the upcoming elections from the Tasgaon constituency. That is why the party did not announce the name of any candidate.

Tomorrow is the last date of withdrawal and after that, the picture will be cleared, the observers added.
