Cong walkout over broken wheat purchase

Raipur, Mar 1 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh Assembly today witnessed uproarious scenes after the opposition Congress alleged that dalia (broken wheat), worth about Rs 160 crore, was purchased without inviting tenders and staged a walkout demanding an inquiry.

Replying to a question by Mr Bhupesh Baghel (Cong), Women and Child Welfare Minister Lata Usendi said that steps were being taken to make arrangements from April for supply of supplementary nutrition in anganwadis as the Supreme Court had directed not to employ contractors for the purpose.

Mr Baghel and Mr Mohammad Akbar (Cong) fired a volley of questions about purchase of dalia alleging corruption in purchase.

Accusing the government of trying to conceal facts, Congress members staged the walkout.

To another question of Mr Dharamjit Singh (Cong), Ms Usendi said that the government would consider a suggestion to set up a laboratory for quality certification of dalia.

Natural calamities cause Rs 620 crore loss in HP during 2005-06

Shimla, Mar 1 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Revenue Minister Sat Mahajan today said natural calamities had caused a loss of Rs 620.72 crore to the state during the present financial year. Replying to a joint question by Ravinder Singh Ravi, Mahinder Singh and Damodar Dass (all BJP), he said the state government had only received a relief of Rs 102.84 from the Centre out of a total of Rs 620.84 crore loss during the year. Dubai deported blast convict Pathan prays for less punishment

Mercury dips due to snow, rain in region

Chandigarh, Mar 1 (UNI) Cold climatic conditions revived in many parts of north-west India following another spell of snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and rain in the plains of Punjab and Haryana during the past 24 hours. Shimla and its adjoining areas experienced fresh snowfall early today plummeting temperatures and intensifying cold wave conditions in Himachal Pradesh. The minimum temperature fell to zero degree in the capital town which was also pounded by rain. Moderate to heavy snowfall lashed the tribal.....
