Co-op banks to introduce separate vigilance, audit wings

Kozhikode, Mar 1 (UNI) The Co-operative banks and other societies in Kerala will introduce a separate vigilance and audit wings to streamline their operations soon, State Co-operation Minister G Sudhakaran said today.

Inaugurating the 28th Co-operative Deposit Collection Campaign here, he said the Rs 30,000 crore cooperative movement would give priority to health and education sectors.

Stating that the government had set a target to mop up an additional Rs 600 crore during the month-long campaign, he said the cooperative banks had increased interest rates ranging from 7.5 per cent to 10.75 per cent on different deposit slabs.

The rates would remain in force even after the deposit collection drive, he added.

New bus service to Bangalore introduced

Visakhapatnam, Mar 1 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Executive Director C Damodara Dass today flagged off an airconditioned super luxury 'volvo bus from here to Bangalore. Talking to mediapersons here, before flagging off the Corporation's new bus service 'Garuda,' he said the introduction of first direct bus service from here to Bangalore was due to growing demand for comfortable long distance travel. Leaving here at 1330 hrs, the bus after a stop-over at Vijayawada, Tirupati, Palamneru and Kolar.....

User charges in Barber shops opposed

Tirupati, Mar 1 (UNI) Sri Raghavendra Nayi Brahmana Sangham today opposed the Andhra Pradesh government's proposed move to impose user charges on barber shops in municipal towns. Sangham president Y V Ramana told UNI that the move to levy user charges would affect the livlihood of Nayi Brahmins, who were earning through traditional profession. The user charge of Rs 500 on saloon is already in vogue in Hyderabad corporation limits. UNI.....

All arrangements made for SSC, Inter exams: Collector

Chittoor, Mar 1 (UNI) All arrangements had been made for the conduct of the SSC and Intermediate examinations in Chittoor district, according to district Collector S S Rawath here today. As many as 61,828 students, including 48,383 regular, 10,426 private and 3,019 vocational course candidates will be writing this year's SSC examinations, from March 21 to April 4 while 40,357 students would appear for the junior Inter exam and 31,657 students for the senior Inter comprising regular and private candidates, beginning.....
