CM invites Norway to make investments in AP

Hyderabad, Mar 1 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today invited Norway to make investments in infrastructure projects in the state.

Interacting with the 16-member Norwegian Parliamentary delegation led by Parliament Deputy Chairman Dragun Eriksson at the Secretariat here, he apprised the delegation on 50 Special Economic Zones (SEZ) created in the state, aimed at attracting investments in textiles, leather, IT, Pharma and Bio-technology.

He also highlighted the state's abundant natural gas reservoir, which would be streamlined by 2008.

Referring to IT sector, Dr Reddy told the visiting delegation that the state had achieved a 50 per cent growth in IT sector, clocking Rs 19,000 crore from software exports.

Major fire at plastic unit

Kochi, Mar 1 (UNI) A major fire broke out at a plastic reprocessing unit damaging property worth lakhs in Aluva near here. According to the District Fire Official, the fire broke out at Sahala Polymers at 1815 hrs. Firetenders doused the flames after one hour. However, there were no reports of casualties. Rs 440 cr Central aid for court modernisation: Minister

Coimbatore, Mar 1 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Law and Justice K Venkatapathy today said the Centre had allocated Rs 440 crore for modernisation of sub-ordinate courts in the country. Minister denies TDP's allegations on misuse of SSA funds

Hyderabad, Mar 1 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh School Education Minister N Rajya Lakshmi today denied Telugu Desam Party's allegation that the government was hastily nominating its partymen on the management committees of schools to ''misuse Rs 500 crore allotted by the Centre under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), which would lapse in March end.''
