CBSE examinations commence

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations commenced across the country today.

More than 12.07 lakh pupils are appearing for the twelfth and tenth standard examinations.

For the twelfth standard examination, which began today, about 5,02,688 students, including 2,11,582 girls, appeared.

The number has registered an increase of 9.59 per cent compared to last year, when 4,54,480 candidates wrote the examination.

More than 7,05,152 pupils, including 4,12,455 boys, will appear for the tenth class examinations, which are being held from tomorrow The figure for tenth class has also recorded an increase of 8.11 per cent from last year when 6,47,992 students appeared.

In Delhi, students, accompanied by parents, started arriving early at the examination centres.

The Board has asked tenth standard students to start early for the examination centres tomorrow to avoid traffic jams.

In the Delhi region, while 2,07,317 class ten candidates will write the examination, 3.62 per cent more than 2006, for class twelve 1,56,257 will appear, marking an increase of 7.06 per cent.

While 30 centres for Class twelve in Delhi have been declared sensitive, 39 centres for class ten have been put in the same category in the national capital.

Two more paramilitary force jawans die in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 8 (UNI) Two more jawans died under ''mysterious circumstances'' in the Kashmir Valley today taking the total number of unnatural deaths of security personnel to four in the past 24 hours. A Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman told UNI that a jawan Navjot Singh, constable driver, was found dead in his room with bullet injuries on his forehead at Arampora in the frontier district of Kupwara. Chinese water guns popular this Holi

Lucknow, Mar 1 (UNI) Colourful Chinese water guns and pistols have flooded the domestic market for the upcoming 'festival of colours' -- Holi. Made of light plastic, a whole range of Chinese 'pichkaris' (sprinklers, water guns and water sprays) are selling like hot cakes in the markets. Priced upward of Rs 10 for a water pistol, these Chinese water guns are also available with a price tag of Rs 2,500 for a large 'machine-gun' capable of holding 6 litres of water.....

MLC granted bail in murder case

Lucknow, Mar 8 (UNI) Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court today granted bail to Uttar Pradesh Member of Legislative Council (MLC) S P Singh in a murder case. Justice Abdul Matin granted bail to Singh after hearing his counsel Virendra Bhatia, who is also a Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha member. The MLC, who is also a co-founder-manager of Lucknow Public School, with his aide Shiv Bahadur was arrested last year in the Chandra Pal Singh murder case in the state.....
