BSNL asked to pay Rs 10,000 compensation to consumer

Jammu, Mar 1 (UNI) A Divisional Consumer Protection Forum has directed telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to pay Rs 10,000 on account of ''deficiency of services and unfair trade practice'' to a telephone user here, official sources said today.

A three-member bench headed by District and Session Judge Khursheed Ahmed Lone directed BSNL to pay the compensation to the complainant, Mr G N Kanth, for causing him mental agoiny and inconvenience.

An amount of Rs 2,000 has also been awarded as cost of litigation in favour of the complainant, the sources said.

The Divisional Consumer Forum also held that the payment of bill though cheque sent by the post in the name of Accounts Officer, BSNL, is the available mode of payment under the instructions issued by the telecom company itself.

BSNL has also been directed to restore the telephone connection of complainant forthwith, the sources added.

Dalit houses set on fire in Haryana village

Karnal, Mar 1 (UNI) Miscreants today attacked a Dalit colony and set on fire several houses in Salwan village of Karnal district in Haryana. Police have arrested five people and booked as many as 80 in this connection, Superintendent of Police Sibas Kaviraj said. New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) Aurobindo Pharma Ltd today said its facility in Andhra Pradesh to manufacture Cefuroxime injections has secured the approval of National Agency for Medicines (NAM), Finland. The Finnish authorities were satisfied regarding the manufacturing practices at the facility at Unit-VI to and certified that it fulfills the prescribed EU-GMP standards. PIL against UP chief secretary, DGP dismissed

Lucknow, Mar 1 (UNI) Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today dismissed a PIL seeking the removal of 52 government servants, including Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai and DGP Bua Singh. The court dismissed the petition -- filed on February 23 by Satyam Maurya -- by terming it not-maintainable and remarked such petitions are filed to earn name and have little public welfare motive. Besides, the PIL had made the Central government, UP government, Samajwadi Party and Election Commission.....
