Another Kashmir employee caught red handed accepting bribe

Srinagar, Mar 1 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation (VO) today caught red handed a government employee while accepting a bribe of Rs 500.

A spokesman of the VO said that a constable Mohammad Mutahar, in Police Telecommunication, lodged a written report with the Organisation alleging that Raja Nisar Ahmed, Assistant Compiler in the General Provident Fund, Provincial Police Cell Kashmir was demanding illegal gratification from him for providing his GP Fund schedule.

He said a case was registered and investigation taken up.

In the course of investigation, officials of the VO laid a successful trap during which the Assistant Compiler was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 500 in his Batmaloo office.

The tainted money was recovered from the possession of the accused in presence of independent witnesses.

His hand wash and pocket wash was taken which tested positive, the spokesman said adding the accused was later taken into custody.

About half a dozen government employees were taken into custody in the Kashmir valley during the past one month under Prevention of Corruption act.

BSNL asked to pay Rs 10,000 compensation to consumer

Jammu, Mar 1 (UNI) A Divisional Consumer Protection Forum has directed telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to pay Rs 10,000 on account of ''deficiency of services and unfair trade practice'' to a telephone user here, official sources said today. A three-member bench headed by District and Session Judge Khursheed Ahmed Lone directed BSNL to pay the compensation to the complainant, Mr G N Kanth, for causing him mental agoiny and inconvenience.
