Amendment of Motor Vehicle Act approved

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The government today approved the Amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 that would remove ambiguities and difficulties in the enforcement of the provisions in the Act.

This would improve responsiveness of transport authorities in meeting the requirements of the citizens, improve public transport and strengthen the enforcement of safety related provisions.

The new amended Bill would be called --''The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2007'', Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said after the cabinet meeting here.

Law to enhance punishment in communal violence cases:Cabinet

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The government would seek to get the Communal Violence (Prevention, Control and Rehabilitation of Victims) Bill, 2005 passed in the ongoing Budget session of Parliament, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said today. The Bill, which was referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee headed by Ms Sushma Swaraj by the Rajya Sabha, got a fresh approval from the Cabinet today in the light of the committee's recommendations and the Home Ministry report, Mr Dasmunsi told.....

Ban on carrying firearms in Delhi till April 9

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) In view of the upcoming polls to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on April 5, the carrying of firearms, swords and other weapons has been banned in the capital till April 9. According to an order issued by Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul, carrying of firearms (including licensed firearms), cudgels, swords, spears, bludgeons, knives, sticks or 'lathis' in any public place within the Union Territory of Delhi has been banned with immediate effect till April.....

Share capital of IREDA to be raised to Rs 1,000 cr

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today approved the raising of the authorised share capital of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd (IREDA) from Rs 400 crore to Rs 1,000 crore. This was announced by Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi after the Cabinet meeting. IREDA, a non-banking finance company under the administrative control of the New and Renewable Ministry, is planning a major thrust to lending to off-grid and energy efficiency projects and opening up new.....
