Afghan delegation of jurists, lawmakers call on Law Minister

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) An eleven-member Afghan delegation comprising prominent jurists and lawmakers, called on Law and Justice Minister H.R. Bhardwaj here today and discussed the legal system in both countries.

The delegation, led by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ghulam Farooq Wardak, included two Justices of the Supreme Court of Afghanistan, Mohammad Omar Babrakzai and Mohammad Alim Nasimi, and two prominent members of both Houses of Afghan Parliament, Dr Burhanullah Shinwari and Liaqatullah Babakerkhil.

The delegation evinced keen interest in the functioning of the Ministry of Law and Justice.

Mr Bhardawaj informed the delegation members that judiciary in India is absolutely free and the Ministry has no say in its functioning.

He said criminal justice is the responsibility of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Afghan delegation apprised the Minister about the Judicial system in Afghanistan.

Lalu to pray for world peace in temple town Mathura

Mathura, Mar 1 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad will participate in a yajna for world peace on the sandy beaches of river Yamuna here tommorow. This is the 118th yajna, which was previously held in Ujjain, Allahabad, Bhopal and several districts of Nepal. One policeman killed, 7 others injured in UP road mishap

Hathras, Mar 1 (UNI) At least one policeman was killed and seven others grievously injured in a road accident in this district of Uttar Pradesh today. Police said the mishap occurred near Hathras junction, when the driver of an jeep lost control over the wheels. Sub-inspector Samar Singh died on the spot, while seven persons, including five cops and two history-sheeters, were rushed to hospital in a critical condition. UNI.....

Lucknow, Mar 1 (UNI) Heavy rainfall lashed the Uttar Pradesh capital early today, bringing a chill in air before Holi.
