Accused gets 3 months RI for outraging modesty of married woman

Akola, Mar 1 (UNI) An ex-serviceman was today sentenced to three months rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 500 for outraging modesty of a married woman.

The victim Mrs Vandana Gajanan sirsat, a resident of nearby village Mhaisang under Borgaon Manju police station in Akola district has not been supported by her husband Gajanan and mother-in-law who later turned hostile to the prosecution.

The prosecution told the court that on the night of May 28, 2005, the accused Umraj Janrao Gawai (35) outraged the modesty of the woman when she was sleeping in the courtyard of the house. She cried for help.

Her husband and mother-in-law lodged a complaint against the accused with the police. In all 5 witness were examined while two of them later turned hostile.

Congress announces list of its ZP, PS candidates

Sangli, Maharashtra, Mar 1 (UNI) The Congress today announced the list of its candidates for Zilla Parishad (ZP) and Panchayat Samiti (PS) elections, to be held on March 11, in the district. The names of candidates were declared in all the areas barring the Tasgaon tehsil, home constituency of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, where his rival Congress leader Sanjaykaka Patil joined the NCP recently. 5 including policeman injured, 7 arrested, tension in Akot

Akola, Mar 1 (UNI) Five persons including a policeman were injured when two factions of NCP clashed over the election of a NCP candidate in the civic elections held on February 1. According to police, some of the NCP workers were against the party candidate Sharifabi Yunuskhan who was elected as corporator to Akola Municipal corporation. BMC inspector remanded to police custody till March 8

Mumbai, Mar 1 (UNI) A Special ACB court today remanded to police custody till March 8 suspended senior inspector of shop and establishment department of BMC, Hanumant Pawar in a bribery case. Pawar was produced before the Additional Session Court Judge (Ms) S S Joshi here this morning, who remanded him to police custody.
