9 per cent GDP growth to be maintained, Karan Singh

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Congress member Karan Singh today said the UPA government will continue to maintain the growth rate of the economy at 9 per cent.

Terming it as an extremely impressive growth, Dr Singh said ''New vistas of opportunities have been opened up'' in the country for the people.

In his motion of thanks on the President's address, Dr Singh said the members of the Rajya Sabha are deeply grateful for the address by President A P J Abdul Kalam to both Houses of Parliament on February 23.

Seconding the motion, Congress member Raashid Alvi said the credit should be given to the government for bringing the GDP to 9.2 per cent, industrial production to 10.87 per cent, electricity generation to 7.5 per cent, exports to a new high.

He said there was a 74 per cent increase in income of the people.

He also pointed out that inflation and price rise have also created problems for the people.

Trader kills daughter, mother: commits suicide

Ahmedabad, Mar 10 (UNI) In a shocking incident, a shopkeeper murdered his mother and two young daughters before committing suicide in Mrudula Park-II society in Sola area on the Western outskirts of the city today. Rajendra Dhanjibhai Patel (37) hanged his two daughters -- Khusali (8) and Nandini (4)--and suffocated his mother Madhuben (60) at his residence this morning. Police sends notice to Hassan Ali

Pune, Mar 10 (UNI) The city police today issued notices to Hassan Ali, suspected to be involved in a Rs 35,000-crore money laundering scam, to present himself before it by Monday. Crime Branch sources said a meeting, headed by ACP Rajeinder Singh, was held today and it was decided to issue the notice to Hassan Ali as cases of economic offences by the latter had surfaced.
