5 including policeman injured, 7 arrested, tension in Akot

Akola, Mar 1 (UNI) Five persons including a policeman were injured when two factions of NCP clashed over the election of a NCP candidate in the civic elections held on February 1.

According to police, some of the NCP workers were against the party candidate Sharifabi Yunuskhan who was elected as corporator to Akola Municipal corporation.

Her supporters and opponents clashed yesterday with arms and damaged the vehicles by stone pelting. One cop was slightly injured with he was stabbed by knife by one of the attackers.

In all 7 persons were arrested and 37 persons from both the groups were booked. The incident took place near the Sabriya Masid in the area. Timely intervention of the police averted the major untoward incident, police claimed.

The offences were registered against 35 persons under sections 147, 148, 149, 353, 323 of IPC section 135 of Bombay police Act and sections 3,4 and 4 (25) of the Arms Act, police said.

More police were deployed in the area. The situation though tense is however is under control, police added.

ACB nabs AMC engineer while accepting Rs 5,000 bribe

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Mar 1 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption-Bureau (ACB) sleuths today caught red-handed a junior engineer of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a contractor for sanctioning of his bills. Acting on a complaint filed by the contractor, Sayyed Ahmed Bayauddin, the ACB team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Pravin Kulkarni, laid a trap and apprehended Bhagaji Paraji Sonwane while accepting the bribe money, the ACB sources said. Literary boards should try for 'Pan Literature' movement: Sadhu

Mumbai, Mar 1 (UNI) Veteran journalist and president of All India Marathi Literary Meet Arun Sadhu today said literary boards should make efforts to start 'Pan Indian Literature' movement. Talking to reporters at a 'meet the press' programme, organised by Mantralaya Vidhimandal Vartahar Sangh, Mr Sadhu, who had a chequered career in English and Marathi journalism, said the move will bring the literature of other Indian languages more closer. CR trains delayed by 45 minutes due to technical snag

Mumbai, Mar 2 (UNI) Three lines of suburban local trains of the Central Railway (CR) were disrupted for about 45 minutes between Kurla and Mulund due to a technical snag today, a railway spokesperson said. CR spokesperson A K Singh said three routes of local trains were disrputed from 0645 hrs to 0730 hrs between Kurla and Mulund due to signal failure.
