1,459 more stranded passengers airlifted from Jammu, Srinagar

Jammu, Mar 1 (UNI) Indian Air Force planes continued to shuttle between Jammu and Srinagar today, airlifting 1,459 more stranded passengers to their destinations as the 300-km-long national highway between the two cities remained closed on the ninth consecutive day.

An IAF fleet of four AN-32 and IL-76 aircraft carried 780 passengers from Jammu to Srinagar and 679 passengers from Srinagar to Jammu in 10 sorties since this morning, Defence spokesman Lt Col S D Goswami told UNI.

Army and IAF launched 'Operation Hamsafar' yesterday to help stranded people reach their destinations, after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ordered free airlift.

A total of 3,138 stranded passengers, including 1,459 today, were shifted in 23 sorties since yesterday, the spokesman added.

Complainant says he gave in to pressure tactics by BJP leaders

Sangli, Maharashtra, Mar 9 (UNI) In a new twist to the issue of a FIR against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, complainant Panchakshar Mahadev Jangam today registered a case against three BJP leaders, including national spokesperson Prakash Jawadekar, for pressuring him to register the complaint. Mr Jangam, in his complaint, stated that BJP Sangli District President Rajaram Garud, BJP leader Neeta Kelkar and Mr Jawadekar had kidnapped him, threatened and forced him to register a complaint against Mr Patil,.....

Militants trigger powerful IED in North kashmir

Baramulla, Mar 1 (UNI) Militants made an abortive bid to blow up the headquarter of 15 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) when they triggered a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) this morning in north Kashmir. Official sources said militants detonated a powerful IED near the headquarter on the Sopore-Bandipora road at village Kemah at 0730 hrs. The blast was so powerful that its sound was heard in the entire area, the sources said. Details about any casualties were awaited. However, a Defence Ministry.....

Baba Udyanath Maharaj moves ABA, fearing his arrest

Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) Spiritual leader Baba Udyanath Maharaj today filed an Anticipatory Bail Application in a local court, after his name allegedly figured during interrogation of four accused persons, arrested in conspiracy to eliminate a builder over Abhyudaya Nagar Redevelopment issue. Udyanath Maharaj moved the application in the Sessions court. The four accused--Mohammed Jaffer Sheikh, Aslam Khan, Salim Qureshi and Vijay Vadkar--confessed to the police during the interrogation that they were hired by Maharaj to kill Rashimkant Shah.....
