Youth sentenced to seven years imprisonment

Bangaon, Feb 28 (UNI) Additional District and Session court today sentenced a 30-year old youth to seven years imprisonment for raping an elderly woman at Kulberia in North 24 Parganas.

Additional District and Session Judge Asha Aurora announcing the verdict said the accused Mohan Ghosh was found guilty of raping a 49-year old lady.

He was arrested on August 22, 2006. Police had registered a case under IPC section 326 against him.

Man arrested with more than 9 kg charas

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) In a snap search, police seized more than nine kg of charas and arrested a 35-year-old from Roshanara Park in North Delhi. Islam, who had come to peddle the drug in the area, was arrested last evening follwoing a tip-off, police said today. SC to pronounce verdict tomorrow on PIL in Mulayam assets

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The Supreme Court will pronounce tomorrow its verdict on a PIL seeking CBI inquiry into the huge assets, allegedly acquired through corrupt means, of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members. A bench headed by Justice A R Lakshmanan which also includes Justice Altamas Kabir will decide the issue whether a CBI inquiry as demanded by the petitioner Vishwanath Chaturvedi is called for. Challan against accused in Kashmir fake encounter killings

Srinagar, Feb 28 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police today presented a 'challan' in a local court here against Special Operation Group (SOG) officials in connection with the fake encounter killings in the Valley. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police produced the 'challan' in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) this afternoon. However, no media or advocates were allowed to enter the court premises while the 'challan' was being produced. The CJM directed.....
