Vocational education mission to have allocation of Rs 50

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambarak, has proposed to make an initial provision of Rs 50 crore for beginning work on Vocational Educational Mission. While presenting the Budget proposals in the Lok Sabha today, the Finance Minister observed that to sustain a high level of economic growth, it is essential have a reservoir of skilled and trained manpower.

Shortages have already emerged in a number of sectors. He said, ''we can advantage of demographic dividend thrown up by an increase in the working age population only if our young men and women have the required skills.'' Keeping in tune with the Prime Minister's announcement about the Vocational Education Mission, during the Independence Day address last year, Shri Chidambaram said that a Task Force in the Planning Commission is chalking out strategies for vocational education programme. Alternative models may be adopted but the approach will be based on public-private partnership, he added.

Budget 2007-08: focus on Textiles, handlooms and coir industry

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) Finance Minister P Chidambaram today enhanced the provision for various schemes in the textiles, handlooms and coir sectors in his budget proposals for 2007-08 in the Lok Sabha. These are Textiles: Budgetary allocation of Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) enhanced from Rs 189 crore in 2006-07 to Rs 425 crore in 2007-08. Technology Upgradation Fund (TUF) Scheme to be continued during the eleventh plan, with a provision of Rs 911 crore in 2007-08, as again.....

Defence allocation enhanced to Rs 96,000 crore

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) Finance Minister P Chidambaram today increased the allocation for defence to Rs 96,000 crore. While presenting the Budget proposals for 2007-08 in the Lok Sabha, the Minister stated that this would include Rs 41,922 crore for capital expenditure. How Rupee comes and goes

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) Of the every rupee that comes from the government exchequer, Corporation Tax accounts for the maximum with 21 paise, followed by Borrowings and Other Liabilities (19 paise, Excise (17 paise), Income Tax (12 paise) and Customs (12 paise). Non-tax revenue contributes 10 paise, Servive Tax and Other taxes 7 paise and Non-debt Capital Receipts 1 paise.
