UP notifies resignations of seven ministers

Lucknow, Feb 28 (UNI) After much delay, the Uttar Pradesh government today notified the resignations of seven ministers, who had been disqualified by the Supreme Court along with six others on February 14.

These ministers -- one cabinet rank and six ministers of state-- had resigned on February 15. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had in turn handed over their resignations to Governor T V Rajeswar.

Raj Bhawan, in its letter Mr Yadav on February 24, had said there was no point in accepting the resignations of these ministers as they have been disqualified as MLAs from August 27, 2003.

The official notification issued by Chief Secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai, however, did not mention the date from which the resignations have been accepted.

The ministers are -- Rajpal Tyagi(cabinet rank), Dinesh Singh, Virendra Singh Bundela, Yogesh Pratap Singh, Rajendra Singh Rana, Shailendra Yadav and Jai Prakash Yadav (all ministers of state).

Snow in Shimla: Widespread rain in HP

Police launch operation to rescue three foreign tourists in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 28 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police have launched a massive operation to rescue three foreign tourists stranded at Hapatkhud in north Kashmir. A police spokesman said information was received that three foreign tourists-- Ms Rogni from Norway, Jay from London and Udoo from Isreal-- were stranded due to heavy snowfall at Hapatkhud several kilometers from world famous ski resort of Gulmarg. He said two police teams were rushed to the scene from Gulmarg and Drang, Tangmarg to rescue.....

Rs 101 crore earmarked for tourism development in Hamirpur: Bali

Shimla, Feb 28 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Tourism Minister G S Bali today said the state government had earmarked a sum of Rs 101 crore during the last four years for developing tourism infrastructure in Hamirpur district. Replying to a supplementary by Baldev Chand (BJP) during question hour here, he said a sum of Rs 49 lakh had been earmarked for developing tourism infrastructure, Rs 42 lakh under temple tourism and Rs 20 lakh for rafting.
