Two die in fire mishap

Vijayawada, Feb 27 (UNI) Two employees of Agri Gold office, where a fire broke out earlier in the day, were found dead in the bathroom here this evening.

Fire department sources said the bodies of the employees were found in the bathroom by fire fighting personnel.

Asphyxiation was said to be the cause for the death.

The deceased were Durga Prasad, a computer operator and Hanumantha Rao, an attender.

The bodies were shifted to Government General Hospital for post-mortem, the sources added.

Electric short circuit was said to be the reason behind the fire.

Quattrocchi's bail not to affect extradition: Govt

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Maintaining that the release of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, an accused in the Bofors payoff case, on bail in Argentina will not affect the extradition proceedings, the government today denied any delay and assured Parliament that a CBI team will reach Buenos Aires well before the 30-day deadline. BJP MPs tear government statement on Quattrochi in RS

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) The Rajya Sabha was today adjourned for the day with the Opposition MPs tearing the statement of the Government on Italian fugitive Ottavio Quattrocchi, an accused in the Bofors pay-off scam. When the House met for the second time, after being adjourned till 1230 hrs, the Opposition members moved to the Chair and expressed their dissatisfaction even as Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachauri placed his statement detailing the measures taken by the authorites.....

Deepen domestic reforms to push exports: Survey

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) India needs to deepen domestic reforms to further accelerate exports in the long-term by removing constraints like infrastructural bottlenecks, rigid labour laws, SSI reservations and high transaction costs, says The Economic Survey, 2006-07. Stating that deepening of domestic reforms was required to maintain the current dynamism in exports, the Survey calls for calibrated policy of phasing out export incentive schemes coupled with lowering basic custom duty and giving a more aggressive push to foreign direct investment.....
