Total revenue receipts expected to be Rs 486,422 crore

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The total revenue receipts of the Central Government is estimated to be Rs 486,422 crore and the revenue expenditure at Rs 557,900 crore, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said while presenting the 2007-08 budget proposal in the Lok Sabha today.

Mr Chidambaram said the revenue deficit is estimated at Rs 71,478 crore, which is 1.5 per cent of GDP.

The fiscal deficit is estimated at Rs 150,948 crore, which is 3.3 per cent of GDP.

The Finance Minister said, ''We are on course to achieve FRBMA targets.'' The plan expenditure for 2007-08 is estimated at Rs 205,100 crore. As a proportion to the total expenditure (net of the SBI share acquisition) plan expenditure will be 32 per cent.

On the other hand, non-plan expenditure in the year 2007-08 (net of the SBI share acquisition) is estimated to be Rs 435,421 crore, which is only 6.5 per cent higher than 2006-07.

National Rural Employment guarantee Scheme to be expanded

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) will be expanded from the current level of 200 districts to 330 districts. The Government has proposed to make an initial allocation of Rs 12,000 crore (including NER component) for the NREGS. The scheme was launched on February 2, 2006. 5-year tax holiday for star hotels in Delhi and adjoining areas

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) In order to promote infrastructure facilities in the National Capital Region (NCR) ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2010, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram today proposed a five-year holiday from income tax for two, three and four star hotels as well as convention centres with a seating capacity of not less than 3,000 located in the NCR of Delhi. Relief to tax payers, allocation up on social sectors, agriculture

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) While leaving unaltered rates of personal Income Tax, Finance Minister P Chidambaram in his Budget 2007-08 today hiked the threshold limit of exemption in case of all assessees, eliminated Income Tax surcharge on smaller firms, gave sops to small scale industry and small service providers, duty reductions on host of consumer goods and substantially hiked allocations for agriculture and social sectors.
