Scion of Mysore Royal Family launches designer apparel

Bangalore, Feb 28 (UNI) Scion of Mysore royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, known for his luxury hotels and breeding of thoroughbreds, has now ventured into the fashion world, with the release of Summer/Spring collection of apparels under the brand name 'Royal House of Mysore'.

The new collection was showcased at a glittering fashion show, attended by the Scion and his wife Pramoda Devi. A wide range of sequences from bridal designs to ready-to-wear clothing, incorporating new captivating designs and colours were on display with noted models adorned with the trendy wear doing the catwalk on the ramp.

Despite being promoted by a royal family, the apparel is aimed at the 'Aam Janata', keeping in mind the changing tastes of younger generation and the middle class. ''I want to transform the idea of a saree from its traditional outlook to a modern fashion statment,'' Mr Wadiyar said.

There was also a convergence of culture as models sported the regal designer silk sarees in unconventional styles like Japanese Kimono, Hiphop barbie, fisherwomen, red carpet dress, congo and Egyptian.

''Our objective is to influence people to experiment with the most untried style of draping a saree and show them that it could be carried off with equal grace and style, Mr Wadiyar said.

Mr Wadiyar had worked on rearranging the intricate patterns and colours ingrained in the sacred Hindu texts and relics. The result was products like 'Ekadasha' sarees, representing eleven colours, 'Pancha Dashakshara' and the 'Durgavahini'. The last ensemble featured the Indo-Western style of bridal wear, including Parsi garas, ghagras and the entire set of wedding trousseaus with Birani colour textures. He extolled that the colour, cuts and designs of this sequence was a blend of the 'occident' and the 'oriental' style of fashion wear.

The brand promises to hold a futuristic appeal, while retaining the essence of Indianess in its clothing line, with designs inspired from the icons of puranic texts, Indo-Aryan/sarcentic, Persian motif styles, miniatures and paintings. Currently, Mr Wadiyar had a collection of 13,000 motifs to create ensemble of designer wears.

As part of their future plans, the Wadiyars are in the process of enhancing their boutiques at their Mysore and Bangalore palaces and plans are afoot to launch an e-commerce portal to reach a wider audience where customers could choose their options on style and colour.
