Rs 500 crore earmarked for commonwealth games in budget

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The Finance Minister P Chidambaram has provided Rs 150 crore to the Ministry of Youth Affaors amd Sports and Rs 350 crore to the Delhi government in 2007-08 for the Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi in the year 2010.

He also proposed to provide Rs 50 crore for the Commonwealth Youth Games 2008 to be held in Pune.

Ad valorem on petrol and diesel reduced from 8 to 6 per cent

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) Finance Minister P Chidambaram today proposed to reduce the ad valorem component of Excise Duty on petrol and diesel from 8 per cent to 6 per cent. Total revenue receipts expected to be Rs 486,422 crore

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The total revenue receipts of the Central Government is estimated to be Rs 486,422 crore and the revenue expenditure at Rs 557,900 crore, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said while presenting the 2007-08 budget proposal in the Lok Sabha today. Mr Chidambaram said the revenue deficit is estimated at Rs 71,478 crore, which is 1.5 per cent of GDP. The fiscal deficit is estimated at Rs 150,948 crore, which is 3.3 per cent of GDP. Tax holiday for undertakings in J

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The government today projected the GDP growth rate at 9.2 per cent in 2006-2007 and expressed commitment to enhance savings and investment to put the economy on a higher trajectory. National Rural Employment guarantee Scheme to be expanded

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) will be expanded from the current level of 200 districts to 330 districts. The Government has proposed to make an initial allocation of Rs 12,000 crore (including NER component) for the NREGS. The scheme was launched on February 2, 2006.
