Rains likely in UP, Haryana, Punjab

Pune, Feb 28 (UNI) Rain or snow are likely to occur at many places in Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir.

Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, north Rajasthan and at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, south Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Mainly dry weather will prevail over West Bengal and Sikkim, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat state, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Karnataka state, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Rains or snow have occurred at most places in Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir .

Rain or thundershowers have occurred at many places in Punjab and at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, west Rajasthan. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country.

Cold wave conditions prevailed in isolated parts of Uttaranchal.

Night temperatures were below normal in Assam and Meghalaya. They were appreciably to markedly above normal in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat state and in some parts of east Uttar Pradesh and were above normal in Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Kashmir, north Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, north Chattisgarh, south Tamil Nadu, coastal and south interior Karnataka, in some parts of Orissa, Jharkhand and in remaining parts of east Uttar Pradesh. Police seize landmine in Gadchiroli

Nagpur, Feb 28 (UNI) A major tragedy was averted when police seized a landmine, packed with 15 kg of explosives, allegedly planted by Naxalites, in Gadchiroli district of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra today. According to police, the landmine was planted in a hilly area in Etapalli tehsil of the district on the road between Chandrakhedi and Maveli. It was seized after being neutralised. Book on Indian Miniature Paintings in Japanese

Vadodara, Feb 28 (UNI) The traditional Indian miniature painting has made its inroads into Japan, following the efforts of Masaaki Asahara, a 65-year-old Japanese. Asahara, who is here for the release of his book on Indian Miniature Paintings published in Japanese, hopes his work, which throws light on Indian history, art, religion and culture, will be very useful for the exchange and promotion of cultural ties between India and Japan.
